Bleh

Erin and I got Wii Fit...so now my video games tell me I'm fat =\ I have been gaining some weight since winter started and I wasn't running. Too damn cold. I didn't realize I'd gotten to just over 200 lbs, though. Given that the game measures BMI based solely on weight and height (muscle/bone structure totally ignored) I'm not 100% confident in it. Especially given that I have all but mastered all of the strength exercises on my first try... I know I'm overweight, but not certain I should rely on the game to tell me how far to go. For me, though, I'd like to head down to something like 185...maybe 175-ish...

I just really don't want to totally stop eating or anything like that, like I did in high school. Body image has never been one of my strong points...I'm better about it now than I used to be, but we'll see if I go crazy or not. Really, I just want to lose some weight so my pants fit well again and I won't have to go buy new ones...although, I'm a little worried my thighs have gotten a bit too big for some of my pants (stupid running). I'm going to start running again (I went on Tuesday, was hoping to go tonight, but it's supposed to rain/be cold); I've also been skating with Kerstan about every other week.

Amazon had my bandsaw in stock (still free shipping, but $25 more than Woodcraft had it). The increase in price is worth it to get the thing more than 2 months earlier, though, in my opinion. Given the way Amazon's free shipping works, though, it won't ship out til Monday (and I ordered it this past Monday). Oh well.

Just so you know, BMI is basically the worst indicator you could go off of. It has TONS of criticism... Like you said it's only height and weight.. Nothing about your bones/general size or even gender! If I were you, I'd basically ignore it for sure. I'm sure you know for your own self what a good weight range is. (Or a body fat scale is a better measurement than BMI!)

I don't know what your previous weights have been, but I thought you were a good weight at New Year's, and I thought you were too skinny our junior yr of high school. All of college was basically a good range of weights too -- although at some points you were a bit too skinny too.

The fact that you can master Wii Fit's activities shows that you're in good shape. If you're worried about your weight and the way your pants fit, then I suggest just increasing your work level (which it seems you are) and if that doesn't work, then either adjusting your food portions the tiniest bit or adjusting the quality of food the tiniest bit. I know how you can go overboard. You are definitely not overweight.

If you eat too little then your metabolism will drop and if you decide to eat more, your body will try to store it as fat as reserves b/c of too little food. And not having enough food will hurt your energy levels and progress in working out. Don't become too thin! <3

Yeah, I know BMI is a pretty bad indicator. The main reason it's used is due to the fact that it's so damn easy to calculate/chart.

In college, I weighed between 165 and 185. Junior year of high school, I was probably somewhere at around 150, though (slowly rising from 140). I was 165 until I started working at the rug store, where I gained quite a bit of muscle.

I was about 185 a year ago and have been gaining since, I suppose. I've already made some adjustments and have started to drop down a bit. While the measurement isn't terribly good, the fact that I can measure and keep track easily is very nice.

I've started with some portion control (and cutting my cheese intake, which I'm sure you are aware, as it is nearly legendary). Additionally, some exercise should help. Ideally, I'll still be able to pig out on occasion (Cici's...or like we used to eat ice cream...) but we'll see how feasible that is.

I think that's good. I have been starting to do somewhat of the same. Every year I gain more over winter times (b/c of weather, holiday food, bulkier clothing) and then lose a little in spring/summer.

Right now I'm more focused on clothes sizes/fitting than my numbers on the scale (weight and body fat.. although body fat means more to me than weight). In doing so, I'm watching my portions of things like ice cream and chocolate and cheese. I also set out chips onto a napkin instead of eat from the bag. Stuff like that. And I'm doing more gym stuff than normal.

Let's face it, I eat a lot... Some good stuff, some really bad stuff. I find it easier to limit portions rather than cut foods out, and I find it easier to manipulate my activities than my food.

Blah.

I have a hard time doing anything. I hate to see food go to waste, and I hate to feel like I'm wasting my time.

I've been keeping up with my exercise lately...I ran yesterday and today. 1.5 miles yesterday and walked .5; today I ran 2 miles and walked/sprinted 1. When I say ran, though, I mean like...9 minute mile jog =\ Not as fast as I was.

I've also been better with portion control. Erin and I will share a Chipotle burrito bowl when we go there...

I'm already starting to notice a change. I've lost about 6 lbs, but this is always what happens. I start working out and eating better, I lose some weight/get in better shape, then I get complacent and lazy and cocky. I figure, I lost it once, I can lose it again.

Oh well.

Yeah I know what you mean. And hence my cyclical weight issues year after year.
